Lazy Sundays...
Jun. 25th, 2006 01:31 pmYesterday was the first half of the condo AGM, the Annual General Meeting. This was the Business Session, where the auditor gets approved and issues get discussed, that sort of thing. Like all of the AGM's over the past 10 years, they've been rather sparsely attended. Part of the problem is that they're really dull as dishwater, and part of the reason is that they're held at East York High School, which is over at Coxwell. We hold them here because we need a wheelchair-accessable venue large enough to hold all 1,420 unit owners and representatives, which doesn't exist onsite. The Crescent Town Elementary School gym might hold most of us, but it's as wheelchair-accessible as the Maginot Line. And the town hall is wheelchair accessible, but if more than 40 showed up it'd be crowded. And yesterday, we had one of our more deliberately dim-bulb candidates for Board try to use the meeting as a campaign event. (It will be broadcast on our internal TV system starting after the end of the voting, so it's not going to help him that much.) I call him "deliberately dim-bulb" because he doesn't like to know inconvenient facts - like the one about the Board controlling the proxies. If the Board doesn't want you on - which is clearly and quite fortunately the case with this know-nothing - you are NOT getting their votes, nor are you getting their proxies' votes.
We get this every year: the demand that the Board and management change peoples' behaviour. (Good luck.) Yesterday, someone demanded - DEMANDED - that the Board stop people from pressing both the up AND down buttons in the upper floors' elevator lobbies. Surely the Board must be able to do SOMETHING to stop this practice? (And left it at that. I'm thinking they're expecting the Board to hire dominatrixes with bloody big bullwhips, to stand in the elevator lobbies and instantly punish transgressors...)
Today, is the second half of the AGM, where we vote for board members. The polls have been open since 12, and will close at 5:00. I'll have to get off my lazy butt and go over and vote soon.
I've just finished downloading and watching Twin Spica. I'm wondering what series to download next - I'm thinking Karin, the chibi vampire. The manga is both cute and funny, and the episode I saw at Anime North seemed to be more of the same.
