lordshipmayhemOK, so we all know that the Japanese are addicted to cute. They'd go nuts over Mel-chan - especially how she refers to her hubby as "Baka-chan" or "Baka-sama".
So when someone wrote to Japan Rail to say the new Shinkansen train's pop-up braking spoilers looked like a pair of cat ears, they, er, ran with it.
The figurine is available for the equivalent of about $30 American.
