TTC = TAKE THE CAR
Feb. 24th, 2007 07:02 pmThe Toronto Transit Commission has a challenge for this weekend and the next six: redo the crumbling roof of the Bloor-Danforth line from Yorkville to St. George Stations. Their Cunning Plan(TM) is imagination itself: use an old line that was only in common use for six months in 1966. Take the westbound trains to Museum and turn them right around, do the same thing with the eastbound trains. It'll be slower, they figure: trains will be every 6 minutes, but that should be OK. What can go wrong, right?
Riiiiight.
Problem this morning: Trains are more like every 12 minutes. Every additional minute of delay means the number of riders per train explodes.
I'm at work until 4:00.
Problem this evening: That 12 minute delay this morning suddenly looks real good right now. The city is now effectively bisected as the entire subway line is not moving from Ossington Station far to the west of the downtown core, to Broadview on the other side of the Don Valley. Shuttle buses have been set up, but each bus can only take about half a subway carful of people. The rest have to wait for the next (already full) bus.
My personal solution? Go north four stops and take the Eglinton bus to Victoria Park. Waaaay out of my way, but it gets me home, standing all the way.
I get home at 6:45.
