A friend of mine with the online nickname of Colonel Zen has this to say about his recent vacation to Puerto Rico:
Remind me the next time I fly, go freight. A crate can be made much roomier than a Coach class seat.

I beheld a sad sight tonight on my way home. I was off to College/Spadina to talk beige boxes with the computer stores there, and in my walk passed by the Firefighters' Memorial at College and University. Being the son of a firefighter, they have a special place in my heart. The memorial is a pleasant place, with four stone slabs handsomely dressed and pointing to the cardinal points, a statue of a firefighter holding an unconscious child, and a tall ebony stele in the middle; there are benches for seating. I haven't a clue how they arranged the names, as they were neither arranged alphabetically by first or last name, by rank, by city or even arranged by date - it seemed as random as the events which took their lives, which may be the point. Three of the names were from Oshawa, my home town - James McConnell from 1952, Gord Myles from 1978, and Donald Jayes the 1980's. It occurs to me that Dad would know both of those last two - I certainly know the name of Gord Myles. I seem to recall the name of at least one. (Thing is, the official City of Oshawa website thinks we have only lost one firefighter in the line of duty, Donad Jeyes.)

And I'm still looking at a new computer. I'm actually having trouble justifying it in my own mind, as this one is still performing yeoman service, and a new one will have to be set up and personalized, and my personal data transferred. Plus, the cost for a new box with anything much more powerful than what I already have is large, maybe $800 with taxes all in.
But one of the major demons of hell is not named in scripture; it's called US Air with and has instruments of torture laughingly called coach seating specially designed to torment sun-burned 6'2 wide-body people with an hour and a half on the ground plus a four hour flight.
