Weird Night

No, it wasn't Halloween tonight, but it's still been a bizarre night.

1) I'm cooking a late dinner at about a quarter to eight when the fire alarm goes off. As I'm going, "It wasn't me!! Honest!!", Security gets on the blower and advises everyone it's on the 15th floor. Doesn't last long, only about 25 minutes or so. Am quite deaf now...

2) As Wilf and I are finishing up dinner, the power goes out. Then, it comes back on again. Then, it's out - this time, for over an hour. With nothing better to do, we sit and talk by candlelight until 10:00. Romantic? Only if a member of the distaff gender were present, instead of Wilf. Dammit. At five minutes after 10, we go out to see what mischief we can get up to among the security staff information we can glean from the security staff, but don't even get to the staircase before the lights are back on.

The power outage was fairly extensive and clearly not connected to the earlier fire alarm - the condo towers (but not the townhouses - they get fed from a different circuit), the rental side, and much of the area between Crescent Town and the Danforth were all out.

And right now, my telephone is telling me it's just after midnight on January 1. It's not telling me which year it is, though...

And no, I wasn't cooking Meatloaf when the alarm went off.

It was:
- pepper steaks wrapped in bacon in the frypan
- Broccoli and cream sauce in puff pasty in the oven
- Fettucini noodles boiling on the stove.

Any one of which could theoretically have set off the alarm, although as this one is a heat detector, that was unlikely.

I was at first worried I'd set the damned alarm off myself, and promptly pushed the range hood fan on. Fortunately, it wasn't me.
