Picton news
Dec. 9th, 2007 04:46 pmAnd Robert Picton has been found guilty of six counts of second-degree murder.
It probably should have been first-degree, but with Canada's fractured criminal justice system, I'll take what I can get. As long as it's over 20 years before he gets the first kick at parole, that should do. By the time he gets out of prison, assuming he hasn't died of old age first, he should be so old and feeble as to be harmless.
Of course the families of all of his victims wanted it to be first-degree (no chance of parole for 25 years), and there's still the other 20 victims for whom he may or may not be tried (the prosecutors may decide it's not required because he'll be behind bars for a long, long time anyway), and I feel for them, but this Christmas they have some closure.
