Taxing day
Sep. 20th, 2008 08:07 pmI spent today dealing with death. Not anyone we know, despite the elephant in the room, but Dad and I reviewed how to do "final" tax returns - the unstated reason being that Dad wants someone to do his final return right, and although I've done plenty of returns, none of were for deceased clients. Dad's had to do this far too often, between his friends and fellow parishioners, and in some cases their parents.
The saddest line? 313 - adoption expenses. The concept here is that you can split adoption expenses between before and after the date of death.
The concept of someone adopting a kid and then dying strikes me as a cruel twist of fate, but the fact they discuss Line 313 at all indicates that it might very well have happened in the past.
And yes, Dad's noticeably sicker.
