Update again

Got off the phone with Dad and Margaret, and then with Kathy.

Dad and Margaret sound utterly exhausted, and disheartened. The doctors have confirmed our worst fears, and have prescribed Prednisone liquid steroid to try to ease the pressure on his brain. He's to see his regular doctor Thursday.

As a result, all my plans for the rest of this week are currently in the "Watch this space" category. I'm now planning on going Thursday - but how or when are still open questions. Tomorrow is "Prep for Travel" Day.

Kathy sounds completely depressed. Our conversation (free thanks to her calling me: they have free long distance to select locations on their VoIP plan, including Toronto and Oshawa) consisted of a lot of silence and sighing. Being a nurse of some 30 years' experience, she's painfully aware of how this is likely to end.

And I think this is finally getting through to Pat as well. She's going to Oshawa right after a class (she's taking a university course) on Thursday morning.

I'm now trying to get through to Chaos and ice_rose. Understandably, their line is busy right now.

I'd like to thank everyone who has responded so far. Everyone, please keep us in your thoughts and prayers.

Next month I'll bring proper hugs. :/ (I'm figuring you may not feel much up to socializing while I'm around, but I hope I'll get to see you.)

A month right now is an unimaginable eternity: like a week in politics, anything might have happened. I'll still be hosting the party, although the day after/before I might now be in town. Oshawa is a one-hour train trip away, and the GO train drops me off within walking distance of the condo.

I'm not sure what I could really say to make you feel any better, but I understand how you feel, having witnessed my grandparents going through similar declines. I'll be thinking about you.

I'm also unsure what to say but I'm sorry to hear that everyone is suffering through this extended ordeal. I really wish none of this had to happen. My prayers are with you and your family.
