He was updating his wife's computer, and ran into some hardware compatibility issues with Windows 2000. (Y'know, the issues that pro-Windows fudsters say "always" happens with Linux and "never" with Windows.)

Imagine, an operating system that can be rootkitted by a word processing program. A work o' genius, that. Next thing you know, Microsoft will "upgrade" Minesweeper so it can host a rootkit installer too.
